Girls Trip to NYC

A Week Away With My Mom

When I was growing up, every year my Mom and I would take a trip to New York. Being only 4-5 hours away from the Big Apple, it was an easy escape that still made you feel like you were a million miles away. I loved the fast pace atmosphere of the city, the tall buildings, the restaurants, the museums. I loved it so much that I even applied to art school at NYU! Being the musical fanatics that we are, part of our trip would always include a show (or two or three!) and time spent in the theatre disctrict.

It's been years since we've visited the city together and after my visit this past fall, I just knew I had to plan something special. So for Christmas I wrapped up a picture of a train, a hotel, and a broadway theatre. I joked that I was the best daugther in the world because I bought Mom a train, a hotel and all of Times Square;)! After a few confused looks she finally guessed her present and we got about planning our trip!

Because both of our birthdays land in February and because my Mom has school vacation during this month, we always plan for this time of year. And while it's always been cold, this trip sure gave us a run for our money. It wasn't just cold, IT WAS BITTER. We made the most of it and spent our time mingling in shops, enjoying our beautiful hotel and eating yummy food. We saw two great shows, On The Town & Aladdin (which was AMAZING), ate at Nougatine and visited the 9/11 memorial.

It was a great trip! I'm so thankful for the time with my Mom and a few days of rest.  As small business owner, sometimes it can be really hard to "allow" myself time away. There's always something that needs to be done, an email to answer, a photo to edit. More and more I'm learning to say yes. Yes to time away, yes to time with family, yes to things that matter. Because when I do, I come back refreshed, reenergized and ready to tackle my tasks. So here's to more YES, trips with family, time together and adventures ahead!
