When I learned that Greg's family home on Lake Winnipesaukee is where they spend most of their free time, where they escape to just breath - I knew that was where we had to have their engagement session. On a COLD and RAINY April morning I drove up into the mountains and met Greg and Sarah who were ending a long weekend away on the lake. There was a quietness, a peaceful energy to their private oasis on the lake and it was magical.

Patrick & Elizabeth's Engagement at Wagon Hill Farm in Durham New Hampshire
Is there anything more adorable than a love story that begins in kindergarten?! I think not! Fondly Liz and Pat described that, "They got along OK. They carpooled, shared best friends and played tag. Patrick had Cooties and Liz was a trouble maker. When kindergarten ended they split paths. Liz pursued her dream of becoming the pink power ranger and Patrick expanded his parking lot soccer skills to the field." Fast forward to adulthood and Liz and Pat are planning a wedding and purchasing their first home! The story of their love is one of distance, separation, and lengthy phone bills. But no matter how far apart their lives seemed to take them, Liz and Pat always found their way back to each other. Clearly a sign that no matter what, it was just meant to be!
Liz and Pat will be married in an outdoor ceremony at Curtis Farm in July. Wagon Hill Farm in New Hampshire was of course perfect backdrop for their engagement session, a wonderful compliment for their rustic inspired wedding! And despite the ticks and the cool breeze we managed to have a beautiful afternoon together! I know I've said it before, but at the risk of sounding cliche, I truly love each of the unique couples I work with! I work with the best people, who are truly beautiful on the inside and out. I'm so grateful that what I do places me in the paths of these special people and even more grateful that I get to witness one of the most important days of their lives. Liz and Pat are no exception to this. They are amazingly genuine people who I now call friends! Liz and Pat, thank you for giving me a peak inside your lives! Can't wait for July!

A Preview of Pat & Liz's Wagon Hill Farm Engagement Session (Squeals and All)
"I like it when Deborah squeals!" exclaimed Liz. I was lying down in a gravel trail covered in brown dust, camera in hand squealing at something wonderful my couple had just done. Should I have been embarrassed? I probably should have been embarrassed by the entire afternoon. I seemed to be on my proverbial A game that day. "Give me your best JQ" I explained to Patrick. Blanks stairs in my direction. Or how about the time a tick climbed up on Liz's foot and I then made her check my hair to make sure I was safe. Dramatic shivers and all. Or the time I ran around the property to move a bag or when I told Liz and Patrick to give the car passing by a show... I am pretty much guaranteed to make a complete fool out of myself while working with my couples.
But here's the great thing. I wasn't embarrassed. In fact we laughed together at my mishaps. I ran around, cracked jokes, triped over myself, stumbled over words, talked with my hands. Oh and squealed a lot. It's who I am, and no matter how hard I try to be this calm, cool, collect person, the crazy always makes it way out.
That excitement I have photographing happy couples in love, squeals and all, tell my couple that what they are doing, who they are together, is beautiful. Because when I squeal, or scream or make a complete idiot out of myself I give permission for others to be themselves. Permission that they too can be comfortable in their own skin, in front of the camera and with me. With each annoying and loud squeal I am telling my couples I'm so glad to be photographing you! Rock it out!
On Saturday I spent the afternoon with Liz and Patrick for their engagement session at Wagon Hill Farm in New Hampshire. And despite the blustery wind, chilly temperatures and one squealing photographer, they created some amazing images! I can't wait to share the shoot in it's entirety on Thursday! For now enjoy their sneak peek!
Wintry Anniversary Session at College Woods in Durham, New Hampshire
They snuggled right in. Big bear hugs, belly laughs and soft kisses. Cuddling under a blanket as snow fell lightly around them, Mark and Sarah only had eyes for each other. You would never know that Mark and Sarah have been married for years. Yet this past weekend they were transported back to their wedding day, reliving the dress, the flowers, the hair and the love with a wintry anniversary session at College Woods in Durham, New Hampshire. After years of marriage and one baby girl, how wonderful it is to know that love doesn't die out, it just grows stronger.
Thanks Mark and Sarah for being such a wonderful example of what marriage is all about. Here's to many more years of bear hugs, belly laughs and soft kisses. Oh and maybe a baby or two more;)
